Multiband splits an audio signal into separate channels, one for each of up to four frequency bands, making it suitable for multiband processing using effects plugins not specifically designed for such a purpose. For instance, you could employ multiband compression by utilizing two different compressor plugins for bass and treble frequencies respectively, or apply chorus or flanger effects solely on midrange frequencies while leaving bass and treble unaltered.
The plugin offers two operational modes: Multi-output and Link Group.
In Multi-output mode, the application processes a single input channel into multiple output channels.
Link Group mode functions as a support feature for DAW apps lacking multi-output audio units compatibility. In this mode, users duplicate the input track multiple times, once for each frequency band. Subsequently, the plugin filters out all bands except the selected ones on each duplicated track, resulting in individual tracks dedicated to specific frequency bands. The term "Link Group" derives from the ability to link plugin instances across two or more tracks, ensuring that transition frequencies between bands synchronize automatically across all tracks within the group.
On the contrary, using high-pass and low-pass filters in a regular EQ to segregate bands requires meticulous attention to phase alignment. Without specialized crossover filters tailored to maintain phase relationships between bands, duplicating tracks and processing them independently may lead to unwanted frequency boosts or attenuation upon mixing. Unlike the apparent UI representation of utilizing low-pass and high-pass filter pairs per band in this plugin, it employs additional phase compensation filters to preserve optimal phase coherence.
The app incorporates second-order Linkwitz-Riley IIR crossover filters to prevent introducing audible latency when using multiple plugins sequentially during real-time performance.
Collaborating with Mr. Ali Ahmet, who oversees the Beat Community group on Facebook dedicated to discussions on mobile music production topics, highlights the inclusivity of diverse perspectives during the app's development.
